The South
The South is the driest part of the island, a kingdom of spiny thickets and endemic species like pachypodiums, euphorbias and didieraceae. The Horombe plateau is surmounted by the Isalo massif, a National Park whose Jurassic sandstone has been sculpted by erosion into deep canyons and ruiniform reliefs.
Isalo National Park, often compared to the Grand Canyon, offers hikes through canyons, natural pools and palm forests. The Berenty reserve is home to the famous ring-tailed lemurs. The Antandroy country and its sculpted tombs tell the story of a culture that venerates ancestors and zebus.
The trail of ancestors
Two weeks of slow descent along the RN7: swim in the natural pools of Isalo, sleep under the stars amid petrified forests, meet the Antandroy tomb sculptors, and finale with your feet in the Indian Ocean at Ifaty, sailing pirogue at dawn.
